Car will turn over but not start.
Hey Guys.
I am trying to track down a problem with my buddies 98 Formula. He was driving the car and it suddenly died. It then would not crank back up. It sat for a few hours and then fired up. We drove it trying to diagnose and it died again.
We have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, coolant sensor (not related), and tried starting with MAF disconnected. The car has started, and when it did it eventually died 15-20 mins later. Now the car will not start at all.
The car will turn over just not start, the fuel pump primes, battery and alternator are good. No security issues with the key either.
I would appreciate any help.

Make sure you have fuel preassure.... On the fuel rail there is a valve turn the ignition on and push the vavle in, make sure you have a rag so you dont get fuel everywhere just incase the pump is working.... If no gas sprays out, its the fuel pump.... Just give the tank a good wack and it should start up if thats the problem....

The schrader valve on the end of the rail is missing. The rail runs out to nozzel like tip that is open on the end. We turned the car over with the cap off the end of the rail with the missing schrader valve. Fuel barely dribbled out when we turned it over. Any ideas? The fuel pump is a Walbro 255lph. You think it could be the fuel filter? It was replaced not to long ago.

It could be.... Did you check the relay to the Pump just to make sure its not the pump or sender unit or anything.... Give the tank a whack with a rubber mallot just to see what happens... Its worth a shot!!!

Dump in a gallon or two of gas just to rule out the tank being empty.
If still no go, chances are the Walbro pump either failed (unlikely) or the line from the pump failed...either broke or popped off the pump.

no im not. The gauge shows 1/4 of gas. I put 1 gallon in the tank and replace the coolant temp sensor, cranked car and drove about 20miles, car died while driving, it did not buck or hesitate (just quit). The car will crank but not start.

I will put gas in it first thing in morning. The car is at a friends house right now. I just bought the car and have not filled the tank up yet so I dont know if the gas gauge has been broke or if its fine.

Well good news I got the car to crank today after putting in 3 gallons of gas, which put the fuel gauge close to 1/2 a tank. I went to the nearest gas station and filled it up(11.6 gallons). The tank holds 15 gallons and was completely empty. Do I have a pickup tube issue, float, vent? The gauged showed 1/4 tank of gas before adding the 3 gallons this morning. I can say the car went 23miles on a gallon of gas. Previous owner never told me about this issue when i bought the car mon.
Thanks, Keith
