how to tell if the carrier is ok or junk.
in short i have a spare carrier, 3.42 gear that i want to swap in for my stock 2.73 gears. i WILL be putting in 3.90's and a full rebuild at the same time. cost will be around 500 bucks for this option and it's the way i really need to go. the money just isnt available in cash to do whats i really really want.
I however do not want to do all this work on a diff thats a junkyard part.
is there a way to check if the diff itself is still in good running order?
If i need a new diff i'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy a dana s60. quoted a price of 2700 +/- 100 shipped today.

ok, so any actual help here? i know 10 bolts arent good for race cars. but my car is basically my work car that i drive on the hiway 300 miles a week.
i dont have the cash for a 9" or a 12 bolt w/o going to the bank, and I REALLY don't want to finance a mod.
