Default Drag racing change to either a PG or th350, I can't make up my mind

I asked this in automatic section but figured since I am drag racing it, it be a good idea to put it in this section.

About to get rid of my m6 and I can't figure if I need a th350 or a powerglide. I drive this car maybe once a month on the street. My car makes about 390rwhp through a m6 and 9" rear end, soon will add 150 shot of nitrous.

I have removed my rear seats, power steering, complete A/C system, spare tire, complete radio system is gone. Weld Prostar 15x3 up front and Weld 15x8 in the rear.

I've heard the car needs to be either less than 3,000lbs or make a bunch of horsepower for a powerglide to be worth it. With my specs would I be faster with a powerglide or the th350. I have 3.89 gears by the way and shift at 6800rpms. I can change my gears if I have to in order for the powerglide to be faster than the th350. Unless you still think it won't be faster?

I just for sure don't want to lose time in the 1/8th or 1/4 mile when I switch from a m6 to a powerglide.

So powerglide or th350? If th350 what do I need to do to make powerglide worth it? Thanks for any help.

I would do the th350 because most guys that race glides make big rwhp and dont want to do big wheelies or blow the tires off at the line. Not talking any trash or anything but at your power level I dont think that would be a concern. the taller gear in the th350 would probably help you 60' given you have the suspension to hook it.

Guys that run in the 275 radial class use pg's because they're making 1500+rwhp on 275's with no wheelie bars, so the gearing in the trans helps them leave the line much more controlled than the gear in a 3 speed would.

Also don't worry to much about you hp numbers because the auto with a stall through the 9 will kill your hp numbers but help your track time and consitency.

th350 here also and run about the exact same time as jmill96Z with a 1.29 60'. half the fun is the first 60 feet. with the powerglide you will miss that. my friend has a powerglide and his car is faster than mine in the 1/4 mile but we are almost dead even to the 1/8 mile.

I'd definately agree that the first 60' are wild with the TH350. Mine has only gone 1.31

I guess I've always figured I'd go to a glide when I couldn't hook first gear anymore in the 350

Go th350. my friend just said to me on sunday at th track that he wishes he would have stayed with the th350 instead of the glide.
