Default Cable Speedometer Questions

What would cause it to read 10-20 mph faster than your actual speed? It also fluctuates quite a bit but I suspect the cable is just hanging up on that part... any ideas?

What kind of vehicle? Some of them jump and what not when they are old.

aftermarket bigger/smaller tires, I'd pull the gear out the transmission tail housing and see if it's missing teeth or anything like that

oh man that actually looks like there is a short somewhere in the wiring, I'd visually inspect it under the hood look for anything that looks melted lol

On my 85' Monte it was doing the same thing so I bought a used cable and there is a grease that goes in the cable to keep things lubed up. Go to autozone or orielly and ask them what use for it. Make sure that nothing is tuggin on the cable either and it is kink free and in good shape. Good luck I know what you mean. It bothers the **** out of ya.

something a can of gas and a few matches could quickly solve.

Looks like your cable is "spun" replace the cable and see if that doesn't fix it... I use to have this problem on my nova as the car went a lot faster then the speedo wanted to spin...i went through like 4 cables. It always followed by a leaky tranny where the cable plugs into the tranny...

Just get a new cable and see if that doesn't fix it..that's my advice..
