Default Please help me decide between 2 cams

I use my car only for road courses and autox. It is a C5 346 all forged, Tea S2 5.3 heads, Ls6 intake, 3.42's with a M12 (ZO6 6 spd),alum flywheel.
I need to make good torque down around 2500-3000 RPM'S but also need good HP up around 6000-6500. I would like to make peak torque at about 4500.
Should I use the TR230-224-111 or the tr224-224-112?
At what RPM will the torque of the 230 be comparable to the 224?
Will there be much of a difference at 2500?
What will be the Rpm difference in peak HP?
Thanks for Your help, Dale

With either of thoes cams, your gona need gears. 3.73's for the 224 or 4.10's for the 230. Otherwise youll be leaving some behind and the gains wont be what you expected

Do you think the gears will realy be a problem since everything I do is above 20 mph? On the road courses we have a flying start and on the autox we usually have a good roll before you trip the timers. I do not do any drag racing with the car.
Thanks again
Dale

Even though you don't drag race, I'd get the 4.10s. The car will be much more enjoyable to drive with or without that big cam, and on the road course the ratios will be closer together which will help for that type of racing as well. It will make more of the gear ratios useable at the lower speeds you race at.

Why dont you give a roadracing tuner a call? I dont think that thunders cams are geared towards roadracing.

I WOULDNT put a 4.10 in the car. Leave the 3.42s in it. Road Racing is NOT dragracing

You don't have to drag race to benifit from 4.10s. The truth is a lot of AutoX racers use them. As I stated before, it will make more of the transmission's gears useable at the lower speeds you AutoX at.

if he's autocrossing the gears will help him accelerate out of tight turns when he has to dodge them cones. The 4.10's might be a little too deep for high speed runnin, your top speed will be limited but I doubt you'll be going over 120 mph unless I don't know something. The gears will help the cam get up in its powerband better.

something else you may want to consider is a lighter flywheel and lighter driveshaft.

Right, but what you fail to see is that with the added power, he is NOT going to be able to hook it. Trust me, the 3.42 will benefit him more. PLUS, if he gets on ANY road course over 120, he is going to have to shift to 5th. Not good IMO.

Dale,

Come on out and see me race in autox in Akron at Firestone and Goodyear in April. I have the tr 224 112 and 3:42's. I think the cam will be great for autox, torque comes in peak at 4800, but already at 400 at 4000. ( JPR S2 heads and cam, not my car, different dyno ). Once I do get my car dynoed I'll post so you can evaluate. Here is a good feel too:

I'm hoping the 3:42's will be fine; if not I guarantee I'll go for 3:73's only. Just my $.02!

I don't want to change the gears because my car was already pushing 150 MPH at Mid Ohio and Roebling Road, without the extra power. The car is not street driven. I do still autox the car on weekends when we are not on a road course, thats why I installed the M12 trany, it is a much lower 1st gear and is a closer ratio thru the bottom three.
