Clean your dusty engine?
Ive seen people when I go to the car wash, have this spray.
they spray it on the engine, and then rinse it.
its that good or bad?

Simple Green. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse it off thoroughly.

You can cover the electrical stuff with a bag or something if you want.

I just use a soapy rag. But simple green works good too.

soapy water, and then just an open hose to rinse.

i don't use any kind of presurized sprayer...for obvious reasons.

I've used simple green and super clean. They both work very well.

i use the cleaner at the car washes. the cleaner itself comes out at very low pressure. and when i rinse i hold the gun far away enough as to not be blasting the engine bay

i was wondering for the guys using the car wash to clean the engine, i always thought that would be the easiest way but i thought it was bad to spray a hot engine, and i cant drive it there and not be hot? Do you spray your warmed up engine, is that ok?

I used to spray foaming tire shine in the engine bay after I decreased it, it would make spraying it down the next time real easy. Quick blow out with the leaf blower dries it out good.

I use purple power that they sell at auto zone and I turn on the engine spray it down with a bottle of purple power and let it sit for about 5 minutes. It works best when the engine is warm by breaking it down easier. Then I pressure wash it. I have used the pressure washer up close and have never had a problem. My engine gets bathed every other weekend and still no problems. But to each their own... you have some scared people who hear horror stories and then think it will happen to them even though they have never experienced it and then you have the other people who actually try things out to see what happens to them. I have been doing this for a while now and have never experienced any problems. You just gotta decide what kind of person you are...

If it's just dust (no oil/grease/etc.) then I use a spray bottle with dish soap and water. If it's grease and oils, then I'd use Simple Green and a paint brush to scrub the really dirty spots.

I always just rinse with a garden hose. You can use high pressure on a LS1 engine (all electrical connectors are weather-packs that won't leak), but I've never had a reason to.
