Default cold weather problems

In the morning when i go out to start my car it revs up to about 2500 rpm then bogs down and dies. Now when i disconnect the MAF sensor it runs normally. I let it run for a minute or two then reconnect the MAF and it starts fine and idles at about 1000 rpm til the engine warms up then it idles at about 700 rpm. I cleaned the MAF with some MAF cleaner but it didnt help.

Does it sound like i need a new MAF sensor or something else?

sounds like a connection problem if it worked when you unplugged it and plugged it back in and it works. Or its on the fritz and youll need one soon. Make sure you clear the SES light fom unnplugging the MAF though.

Atool like a tech II like GM dealerships use or a snap-on can read what the computer sees from the MAF and tell you if it is in the normal range. Only bad thing about the tech II is the stealership around here charges $75 for 2 minutes worth of work. Maybe yourdealership wouldn't charge that much.

Another idea if you know somebody else with an F-body swap MAFS if you are both stock and see what it does...

Did you have an SES light prior to disconnecting the MAF?

My SES light does not work, it on my list of things to fix, but when the weather was nicer i did not have any codes for the MAF when i was getting the car inspected. Now this morning the weather was nicer that it has the last few days, it was in the 40s and i didnt have to disconnect the MAF.

It obviously sounds like an MAF problem, but it's always nice to hook up a scanner before tossing parts at the car. Electronics are expensive, and often hard to quickly diagnose without taking a quick look at stored DTCs and a few PCM readings.

Do you know anybody local with an OBD scanner?

Check to see if your maf has a short. I was having a problem with mine last winter and i had someone check the volts from the MAF and it was a little low.

I replaced the MAF with a new acdelco one. Doesn't look the same as the old one, but that's what the dealer said will work for the camaro. Anyways it still doing to the same thing. So i guess it could be the volts. How would you check the volts on the MAF?
