Default alternator hookup CONFUSION

Im running a 5.3 with megasquirt ( no ecm)
with an alternator that came with it.

the adapter has two wires. it says connect one to lamp and the other to switched ignition

my question is, what does the second wire do? is it a sense wire? if so, can I connect it to my main junction instead? does it even need to be connected, and why?

thanks

the alternator needs a 10ohm resistance to ground to activate the field.
the indicator lamp provides this as well as letting you know what the alt is doing.

The power source activates the rectumfinders inside the case.
