how to paint interior alright guys, i wanna paint my interior and i need help from people who have done this.can you guys post any sites that have step by step info and pics about this. I know how to do it in theory,but dont want to make a mistake. What problems did you guys run into,and what paint and materials did you use. I want it to look like it came stock <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> thnaks

I've done alot of painting. Here's my .02
Sand them well. Use different grades of sand paper, ending in something more fine so that the pieces are as smoothe as possible.
Order touch up SPRAY paint for your color car from the dealer. Get at leat 3 cans. (They are small) If you plan on just buying your paint from a hardware store buy gloss paint.
Go to Kragen/PepBoys and get youself some Duplicolor Clear Coat. The stuff is awesome. Alot of guys use them on model cars and stuff.
Get some Primer from a hardware store for plastics. Any brand will do.
After sanding the parts down well, wash them, and thoroughly dry them off. (I used a hair dryer)
In a dust free environment (a garage is fine) spray them evenly with light coats of primer. Light/even coats are key.
Let dry.
Get yourself a cardboard box that will cover up all your pieces for after you spray each coat of paint.
Lightly, and evenly (which is key, again) paint your pieces.
Cover them with the cardboard box to protect from dust and lint after coats.
Let first coat dry for at least an hour before applying second coat.
Let dry over night.
Next day, apply third coat, let dry for an hour, apply fouth coat.
Next day, wet sand. With a very fine grit sandpaper wet sand each piece under a running sink. (This helps eliminate orange peel)
Dry well. (hair dryer works well)
Apply one more coat of color, evenly, and let dry.
Next day, apply two coats of clear an hour after each other.
Next day, apply one more coat of clear, and you should be good to go.
The process took me a week, but was well worth it.

I think, if done tastefully, that it can look really good. Think about every classic car you've ever sat in, and I can remember painted dashes, painted doors, etc. Like my 56 Bel Air had a completely painted dash. There is nothing distasteful about it, and if you WANT to do it, then do it.

Re: how to paint interior Just remember not to over-do it. Stick with ONE color, usually matching your body color. When two or three colors are applied, it starts to look tacky.
