Default slight grind

i just purchased a 2002 6spd z28 and there is a slight grind in 3rd and 4th both going from 3rd to 4th and down shifting into those gears, its slight and it will engage those gears and hold, any thoughts..clutch? gears? thanks guys im pretty knew to the 6spds

If it only does it in 3-4 and not any other gears then I would say worn 3-4 synchronizer. This is usually due to plastic fork pads being worn/broken or synchro keys broken/broken and missing. Worst case scenario is the previous owner "missed" these gears and caused this.

These keys were about to fail.





Where is the plastic fork pads?





The synchro teeth are worn. They should have a nice "point"!

thanks man..how much would the syncros run me, or what it be more beneficial just to do a rebuild? thanks again for the help you are talking to a former 4l60 guy.. which i could rebuild with my eyes closed lol

If you have to replace the 3-4 synchro, you have to disassemble most of the trans anyway so I would rebuild it. The synchro run about $125 to $145 but also inspect the 3rd and 4th gengagement gears for wear. 5 little teeth should be sharp and shouldn't look like this.....The synchro ring actually "slides" over to the little engagement teeth and if the synchro is worn out most likely the enagement gears are worn also.

yeah already looked up, just going to go ahead with a tick stage 2 rebuild kit
