Default 224 Cam, hot cam, and and req'd computer tuning

I'm on the fence between these two cams, and hopefully someone on the board can help me:

CAM 1: GMPP "Hot Cam"
CAM 2: 224/224 112 LSA, .581 lift cam

My car is an a4 with a 3500 stall, Longtubes with dumps, all the free mods, and the whisper lid.
I relaize that the hotcam may leave some power on the table, but it seems like a good cam for the $$.

My question is this- while computer tuning is recommended for both cams, I'd like to know which one of the two would run better WITHOUT computer tuning?

I would say the Hot cam would be better without tuning since it is slightly less radical with an average duration on 222.5 and a lot less lift. With either one you would want to do some tuning though, if none other than drilling a bigger hole in the throttle blade to get it to idle better. One guy drilled his out to 17/64" for the hotcam.

Is anyone out there running the 224/224 112 LSA .581 lift cam without tuning? If so how is it?

From what I've heard, if you run any of these cams we're talking about without PCM tuning you will throw SES lights anytime you idle very long from misfire codes. Using LS1edit, you can cause the PCM to check for missfire less frequently to avoid the problem.

Actually i have a very similar setup as you and i went with the HOtcam because of price and i like the lopy idle. It is a great torque cam and works well with an A4 and stall(only problem now is traction). I tunned the car myself with ls1edit and it took awhile to get it to idle...shift when i wanted it too....and get rid of the lights. I have run on drag radials again my buddie who has that cam...ported heads, M6, 4.11's, and someother mods and e.t streets and i was only .1 seconds behind his best time. Now if i could only get it to hook up. I like the hotcam!! I would say that the other cam would be more streetable though. The split duration is a little more troublsome in town but no complaints here!!
