factory ws6 hood and air box on a t/a???
I'm sure this has been asked before but I could not find the answer to my question in the searches.
I am looking for an ls1 ws6 trans am and am having a hard time finding one locally, so I thought I'd broaden my search to regular ls1 t/a's as well.
My question is if/where I can get a FACTORY WS6 hood and air box to work on a non ws6 car. I've seen the suncoast creations hoods but i've heard that they are wavy and not a great fit.
Also, will the factory WS6 hood and airbox on a non ws6 t/a give me the same performance (hp/tq) as the regular ws6 car??
TIA,
Russ

There is more to a WS6 package than simply the hood and airbox. The power gains come also from the steeper gearing and free-er flowing exhaust.

I am planning on adding 3:73's or 4:11's and true dual exhaust, not to mention suspension upgrades. Basically, all the "other" performance aspects of the WS6 package, besides the ram air, I plan on doing myself. My main concern is the look of the WS6 hood and the functioning ram air.

I coulen't find the parts at SDPC. Does SDPC carry the actual GM parts or are they copies from the GM mold? I've read here on ls1tech that the aftermarket hoods are wavy and often require work to fit correctly.
I assume then, that it's possible to add ram air to a non ram air car. It's my understanding that it's a matter of installing the hood and air box. Is there anything else needed?
Thanks again all,
Russ

So I'm hearing that all I have to do is buy the WS6 hood and Airbox and it will just bolt into place.
Anybody know where to get a factory WS6 hood and airbox? Does GM sell the parts through dealerships? Do you have to have a WS6 to buy a WS6 hood? I looked through SDPC and could not find the parts referenced above, nor could I find a WS6 hood listed anywhere.
All of your input is greatly appreciated.
*Edit* I think I'll also post this in the appearance section.

Yes, you can get them from the dealer...be prepared for the bill though... I think GM charges $1500+ for the stock WS6 hood...
good luck,

$1500
That's almost sickening. I didn't realize there was that much of a discrepancy in price. If that's the case, what "factory style" WS6 would you suggest? I want something that will look/fit like it's original.

Theres a few different choices out there. You could go the SLKP route and buy a raptor hood. Those looks awesome. Josh99ta has one on his non ws6 TA. Looks great Than theres the www.mechamperformance.com hood. Its got 4 heat extractors towards the top of the hood. I like that one the best. Theres a few others around. Look around on our sponsor's pages.

Re: factory ws6 hood and air box on a t/a???
the WS6 is not that much faster (if any) than the regular ta. The only reason the horsepower is rated higher is because they charge money for it... my best friend has a WS6, I have an SS, my little brother has a regualr TA, and the friend's dad has a C5. The C5 is the slowest if that tells you anything... we have raced them all. The only benefit of a WS6 is the hood. You can make your car WAY faster than a WS6 with the $1500 (3500 Converter, LID, FTRA, cutout, 100 shot, Nitto Drag Radials). I personally like the WS6 for appearance reasons only, I wouldnt expect to see any real power advantage.

Re: factory ws6 hood and air box on a t/a???
I agree completely! The only reason I want the WS6 is for appearance. Although the BG ram air is a nice addition as well.
My main concern is finding a hood that is as good a quality as the GM hood without having to pay the $1500 price tag. I'm not looking for show car perfect either. But I don't want something that's going to crack and bend and be totally wavy either.
Basically, I don't want something as nice as champaign, but I don't want something as cheap as beer. Maybe a nice wine.
Suncoast suppossedly has massive fitment problems. I would like to avoid that. I haven't heard anything about the glasstek or ASD hood so I don't know what's up with them. If anybody has any opinions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Russ
