I like the look of this lid, i think it would look good on my silver ta. I have never seen one on the ls1 tho. They are pretty cheap (ebay). Has anyone here ever used one? I was wondering how it fits, and they say it fits the stock maf but they recommend a coupler for a good seal. If you have one did you use a coupler? If so what did you use? The only couplers i see anywhere are slp bellows. That thing would have to heat soak really bad. You would probably lose performance over a stock lid.

That thing looks pretty bad ***. If you want to make it work and not heat soak that much then have the inside of the lid thermal coated. There are plenty of shops out there that can do this and doing so on the inside of that lid would be easy and not very expensive.

that metal lid is only good if you got a show car and like to have ever things polished

That would also make the inner dimensions smaller. Its a double edged sword, have heat soak and lose power, or have a smaller diameter and lose power.

Unless its JUST a show car I see no advantages to this lid.

figures i just got mine in mail today, what is all this heatsoak talk? lid getting hot?
My lid doesn't sit very well on mine,
while i have your attention, what is the little sensor for that plugs in the lid??

Air intake temperarure sensor. I'd run it. I don't think it will be as big of a deal as others are saying. Enjoy it. It looks friggin' sweet.

you may have been the one that outbid me then? just kidding- Im still thinking about it, not sure if this is the one i want or not. Deff dont like the heat soak, i never even thought about that. Let me know how you like it and did you use a coupler like they said(what did you use)? If i dont get this one i also like the look of the mti clear lid..

Heat soak is basically just a piece (in this case the lid) absorbing heat and then transferring that heat to the air. Hotter air means less horsepower.

looks real nice. honestly if you think that 1/16" piece of metal is going to get heat soaked bad and cause performance your gettin pickey or drivin a honda just sayin

there's a few blokes out here in Australia that use the metal airbox lids... and honestly, they absorb the heat really bad and the inside turns into an oven. You may as well stick a blowtorch on the end of your intake pipe and start the car. Not a good idea to use them unless you change it from plastic to metal for a car show.

Heat soak wont be horrible. Thin metal like that with air moving across it probably wouldn't be an issue. Look at how many people are running the metal ram air induction. They lost no power when the car was moving.

I'd be suprise if it heat soaks that bad. Do the free ram air mod, and i bet it doesnt affect it much at all. The intake is so far away from the motor on these cars it cant be that bad. Unless you have a 1000 hp car, the loss if it does heat soak is going to be negligable anyway.

Nevermind, the ones i found are $189. You could get the FTP Clear lid for that much. If it was 50 bucks i would say go for it
