Thanks NMP0098 & Others (Trans Issues and TEP)
Thanks to all who recommended the TEP Transmission. I worked with Dave on scheduling the rebuild of my failing trans before it totally died and was set to drive the GXP down to Indiana but didn't get so lucky. The trans ended up biting the big one. Ironically the trans died a block from a Pontiac dealership just a week before Dave was ready to work on my trans. Dave luckily had a spare trans available that he rebuilt with the 3.29 gears & goodies and I worked with the dealership to handle the trans swap. After the swap, Dave even met me at the dealership and handled the reprogramming of the computer for the new gears. Dave & TEP are top notch and I would recommend him to all who are having trans issues. What a difference the new gearing makes on performance as well.
Thanks again...

What are your throughts on the 3.29 gears so far? My tranny is solid so far but I autox in the summer so it's only a matter of time. I'm planning on going the same route with a TEP build trans with all the goodies and probably 3.29's as well.

I definitely like the 3.29 gears so far. There is a big difference off the light and it is stronger through all, 1st through 4th. The only negative is that I do tend to drive over the speedlimit on the highways 80+ and noticed my gas mileage dropped by about 1 mpg due to the new gears. If I keep at around 70 on the highways, I don't see any difference in mpg versus the stock trans. If your going to get a TEP built trans, go with the 3.29 gears, you won't be dissapointed.

Mike,
You seem to know alot about my car/trans. Do I know you? Yes, the starter was frozen to my one of the starter pads on my existing trans and a piece of the flange was snapped off in the process of trying to remove the starter. It shouldn't be too hard of a fix to weld it back together to make it a good core.

No, you don't know me. I put a deposit on your old transmission to be re-built. I have a built one already but the t.conv. went/is going bad so I decided if I have to drop the thing to replace it anyway I am just going to have Dave build it for me with a solid t. conv. I will probably just sell my old one since all the hard parts are still good.
You must of thought I was psychic. lol...

I got about the same 1mpg drop at high speeds when I went to the 3.29s, but the extra pickup is worth it IMO!
Dave is great guy to work with. Through one of those weird 6 degrees of seperation things, my brother-in-law was talking with Dave about his '78 Cutlass, which he swapped a S/C 3800 into, at the same time I was getting ready to get my transmission built (my brother-in-law wants to do the same swap in his Malibu). We ended up meeting up and checking out the Cutlass for like 3 hours, and Dave answered every question that my brother-in-law threw at him.
