Default Shutting off Troubles

I recently installed a new HU, and randomly while you are listening to music it will just power off and then turn itself right back on! It will do it 2 or 3 times in a row, and then work fine for a couple hours or days.... Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with an Alpine I had in my truck. If I turned it up too loud or just slightly louder than normal it would shut off and then turn back on. I believe it was over heating which caused it to protect it self and turn off. Just an idea.

The new head unit may be just a coincidence. Do your windows stop working at the same time the radio goes out? There is a common problem with the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) circuit in the Body Control Module (BCM). One of the solder joints cracks and causes intermittent power supply to the radio and windows.

There is a simple fix in this thread.

Check the solder joints circled in the photo. You don't necessarily have to resolder all of them - just the ones that look damaged. You shouldn't need additional solder. Just heat up the existing solder points and let them reflow.
