Also the LQ9 is higher compression as well.
The 5.3L is cheap and a 6.0L will bolt in its place. So you could cheap out, then buy a 6.0L long or shortblock later built to your specs to swap in its place.
Either is better than the V6!

I went with the 5.3 due to funds and getting all the ls setup stuff. my intention is to move to a 6.0 down the road if the 5.3 doesn't cut the mustard. I am putting in a 70 chevelle, stock 5.3, thumpr cam and 243 heads for the time being.

If your doing heads then yes. The 4'' bore give more options for L92 heads etc...

Get a LS1 K-member and Mounts, it's cake when you use them..trust me. I wish I went that way the first time..it would've been less of a headache.
As far as wiring goes..I made my Harness plug-n-play with my setup.
Here is my swap thread, there is all kinds of info in it.

I know you say you are going Carb'd, but EFI is pretty simple to do with these cars.
I got the complete bottom-end for $500 on an Engine Stand delivered to the house..there are deals out there..
