Only Canadian model Firebirds came with automatic headlights. If you are experiencing headlights popping up unexpectedly on a US Firebird then you probably have a stripped headlight motor gear.
If you have a Canadian model Firebird, you can disable the automatic headlights the same way as in Camaros. Simply lift up the dash pad and short the two daylight sensor wires together using a ScotchLock connector.

There is a eaiser way that keep you from messing with that sensor and the dash pad. Pull the radio bezel, and remove the radio, behind that on the back wall is the box that controlls the lights for daytime running and the sensor. If you unplug the box (two conectors) and then slide the board out, you will see the two conector plugs. A big one and a small one, what you need to do is on the small on, use some electrical solder to connect the pins at A and B and BAM, no more auto lights at dark or dusk. However, this also stops your daytime running lights. Here is a good site with pics to do this:

I certainly wouldn't call that an easier method but it is effective if you want to disable both DRLs and automatic headlights.
Shorting the sensor leads can be done in less than ten minutes with almost no mechanical or electrical skills.
1. Remove the t-tops
2. Remove the two Phillips screws on each side holding the A-pillar trim and pull off the trim.
3. Carefully pry up the dash panel (be careful because the edges of the plastic are sharp). There is no need to remove the panel, just lift it enough to get your hand underneath.
4. Crimp a ScotchLock connector across the sensor wires using ordinary pliers.
5. Press the dash panel back into place.
6. Reinstall the A-pillar trim pieces and screws.
7. Reinstall the t-tops.
8. Have your favorite adult beverage while you pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
