Default Gas mileage and underdrive pulley...

Ok, first off, let me apologize for posting yet another UD pulley thread.

I've done a search, and I know which one to get, where to get it, and what HP gains to expect from it.

There's only one piece of info I could not find....

The UD pully mfr's claim a 2-3mpg gain from it. Has anyone experienced this, or ANY mpg gain from it?

I want the thing anyway, but a 2-3mpg gain would be AMAZING.... the thing would pay for itself in a few months.

Thanks for any info.

Oh, and this will be going on a A4 car with 2.73's and stock stereo, I want to do the 25% with no alt pulley, unless I find I need it later on. If I gain .1 at the track I'll be happy, but the mpg gain would be icing on the cake and REALLY make this mod worth it.

Not a chance....I drove mine for about 39k miles with the pulley on. Mostly highway (20-25k a year).

I'm interest in a mpg boost too. City driving is where I would think the gain would be not highway.

I haven't ever seen a noticiable gain in gas mileage with a UD pulley. I wouldn't think it would pick up enough to ever say it was due to the pulley itself.

If you want a mod that gets REAL gas mileage, get one of these bad boys...

Granted I drive a corvette so my experience differs a bit. Back in 2005 I was running the factory 346 g5x3 cam, 78mm FAST, 1 3/4 lg pros no cats, and bullet exhaust. Yes she was LOUD. After Lou got done tuning it (EXCELLENT JOB) the car was amazingly easy on gas provided you took it easy on the throttle. 6th gear 75mph I saw 30ish actual gas mileage. That was with stock pully. Added afr 205's 59cc, Meziere ewp, ASP ud pully with a retune the following year. Power was now up to 457 rwhp 417 rwtq. Same scenario driving out of Dallas, I didn't stop until St Louis for gas, filled up and pulled into my Driveway in the burbs of Detroit with a bit left in the tank. Display was showing 38-40 mpg all the way. Actual gas mileage was 34.5, gotta say it was the exception vs the rule. After that I saw 33 mpg actual on a couple trips to Chicago, (more stop and go though) and similar on my trips to Northern Michigan. IMHO and driving experiences I did witness roughly 3-5 mpg increase with the addition of Meziere EWP and UD pully, along with AFR heads. Sorry I don't have a pully only swap increase assessment for you. Hope my experiences help. FWIW, my 402 can get 27 mpg on the eway under similar conditions, but 26 is more likely.

That's amazing mileage! Sounds like a badass Vette too! Makes me wish I had a M6, highest I've seen in my A4 was just over 25mpg.

Anyway, thanks for the info everyone...I figured it was too good to be true, I always take claims like that with a grain of salt, but I figured it didn't hurt to ask.

Still seems like a worthwhile mod, even without any mpg gain.

Just noticed the screen name LOL. Stunt man MIKE was my favorite character in QT's Grind House movie, but now I feel dumb because I can't think of the title ??

My buddy that helps me with all the major car stuff on my DD'r, actually looks a lot like Kurt Russell's character. I lent him the movie, and he said that doesn't look like me !! Too bad all his co workers at the dealership agree with me, and they started calling him Mike as a joke.

One thing I should mention about city gas mileage. I don't do well at all. No positive effect on city gas mileage. I suppose you'd have to lunk your ride around in the city vs goosing it to let everyone know you are coming to see anything. I'll also add this, its all in the tune.

Yeah, haha, that's where I got the name from. I joined a few boards around the time that movie was out, and since my name really IS Mike, I thought that sounded good at the time.

I was wondering how long it would go before someone caught that. It did get a laugh here.

i would of thought perahps 1 mpg, because it shouldnt need as much rpm as there is less parastic loss. Atleast thats what I was thinking.
