Either of those will work. Or if you can find some DOT 5.1 that will work too. Just dont put DOT 5 in.

Don't you have to flush it out real good if you switch to 5.1 so they don't mix? I thought I remember reading something about that.

It has something in it that's bad for the hyd. system, I forgot what it was though. That, and there's no reason for it... go with DOT 4 and be done.

I was told that anything other than dot 3 would deteriorate the seals in the master. I had to rebuild mine twice after the rubber seals inside tore apart due to the fluid.

DOT 4 will be fine. I've been running it for over a year.

mcleod master. the rubber seals were gummy and fell apart inside the cylinder but in hind sight, it might have been the synthetic brake fluid I used at one point.

Its not a problem as them not being able to be mixed with each other, but you would want to flush the system very good so that your not cross contaminating the new fluid with the old as the 5.1 will have a higher resistance to boiling vs the 3 and 4.

And DOT 5 is a silicon based brake fluid where as DOT 3,4 and 5.1 is a Polyglycol ether based fluid. So thats why if you put a silicon based fluid in a system designed for the polyglycol ether based fluids you will have a premature failure of the seals and what not.
