I just recently replaced mt alternator on my car.. well i started slowly hearing a loud screatch and first thot it was my my alternator so i took it back and got a new one... Still did it... Bought a new pulley that is on the idler pulley... still did it... replaced the tensior pulley on the serpentine belt.. still did it... un hooked my ac belt to eliminate all those pulleys... still did it... so the only other pulleys i have are the water pump, power steering pump, and ud pulley... sounds like it is comoing from my water pump but not for sure and i dont wanna by another one when that isnt the problem.. n e one else had this problem...

turn the wp pulley by hand...if it's a bad bearing you should be able to feel it. Also, try some belt dressing.

I've had a loud noise similar to yours and replaced the same things you did and still have the problem. Mine sounds like its coming from the water pump but im not 100% sure.

ya i replaced my water pump as well, come to find out that it was the alternator i had bought... it was a duralast brand... i took it off my car and put my buddies original alternator on my car and hasnt squealed since.. i ordered a different brand alternator so i will put that on and see if it squeals..

Ya I do, took that belt off tho.. But u bought a different brand alternator and it solved the problem, for some reason my car didn't like duralast ao I bought an ultimate from auto zone.. Now all I hear is a slight vortech sounding whistle... Sounds cool so I'm not mad
