Default Cleaning back of SS rims?

I have the ss rims, they have groves in the back of the rims and i have tried cleaning them with a sponge but still the remain dirty, would it be ok to hit this with a wire brush or something like that? Anybody have any advice on how to do this?

SOS Pad is what I use, they are tough to clean, but look great when done. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
