IMO, sure. Remember that the intake manifold has to come off to be ported to fit. I ran one on my cam-only setup for years. Some argue that they can hurt on a stockish application, but a cammed setup I don't see it being an issue.

Now depending on your current mods, if you're missing some of the essential bolt-ons, I'd say wait on the 58mm.

I agree with others here. I went with some Crane 1.6s rockers, K-motion springs, GM845 cam, long tubes, no cat 2.5 exhaust with Spintechs and a stock TB. It was actually a sweet setup and upon further research found that going with the 58mm at that point would not be as feasible until I upgraded a little further. I now have a 52mm because I cam across it in the local yards. Just scored some LE2 heads, PnP intake, 30# inj and a few other goodies so with Lloyd's recommendations for the new setup it is recommended that I go 58mm.

IMO, going with a 58mm TB on a cammed/headers setup would be fine. Like RamAir said, you'll have to pull the intake to have it ported to match. However, to get the full benefit of having a 58mm tb, you'll need to have ported heads and 1.6 roller rockers.
You're improving the flow of air into the motor, but the heads are restricting the flow, and your headers are allowing improved flow. You now have a bottleneck in the heads.
I'd save up a bit more cash, and when you pull the intake to have it ported for the TB, pull the heads (you're already halfway there anyway!) and have the heads/IM ported.
