Default 2000 z28 - Rear End Knocking with Acceleration

I have a 2000 z28, with about 120,000 miles. Saturday it started having a loud knocking noise from the rear end as i acclerated.... It soundes like its being hit with a hammer. I dont know if it could be a carrier bearing.. or what? Anyone have any ideas??

I'd get your car up on jack stands and crawl under there to see if you can see what the problem could be. It could be the exhaust has a broken hangar, or a stock torque arm bending itself out of shape, etc. Bob

I have been under it.. I didnt see anything obviously wrong. The noise is like someone is hitting it with a hammer, when im at an idle its a slow knocking, when I acclerate it gets faster and louder. This car is my everyday driver, so I was also wondering if it is ok to drive this way until I figure out what the problem is.??
