is it to much gear or is it ok i drive the car dally but only put about 20 miles on the car every day and how do you know what series your rear end is.....and if i put some gm 1.6 rockers on the car with the stock cam and springs will it help me out or what ..thanks

I would think 4.10 + M/T is a great combination...

In an auto, it's brutal on the highway. I am running 3.73 + LT1 combo in a B-body (Buick Roadmaster) and I don't like it very much on the highway, although it really comes alive at speeds around 50mph.
IMO, for the mostly highway, either 3.42 or 3.23 is a much better choice, and maybe 3.73 if you are dedicated. But you need to ask yourself where you drive most of the time and that will decide that. I would go nuts if I had to drive with 4.10 at even 70mph for 10 hours.

Like Dogma said, I think 4.10s would be overkill in an automatic. Because the car isn't a dedicated fun/track car, keep the 3.73s, you won't be disappointed.

Regarding upgrading the rockers, you should definitely do valve springs and 1.6 roller rockers at the same time. I don't know how much extra lift the factory valve springs can take.

In hindsight, I would suggest holding off on the 1.6 Roller Rockers for when you go with a cam as well, and just do the cam/rockers all at once. That way you won't have to tune the car twice, and it will feel much much better.

I drive daily with a 4.11 rear in a b-body and I will admit it is rough on longterm highway trips. I cruise at around 2850-3000 rpm at 70mph, but it's just something I got used to. I also drive around on a 29in tire so the final drive isn't to bad. If I could go back I'd probably choose a 3.73, but the 4.11s do move my b-body off the line well.

Most guys are fine with 3.73s on the highway, especially if you only put on 20 miles a day.

My 60mile a day commute is mostly rural so I am OK with the 4.10s currently in my car but if I did a lot more highway I would not keep them.

Far as rockers, I would say only do them if you do springs too. I think the LT4 springs can be found for like $40 they are perfect for a stock cam with 1.6s this will let the cam keep making power to a good bit higher rpm.

The car has a 7.5" rear, the series carrier is dependent on the gears it came with, look at the SPID tag and tell us what the codes are that start with "G" for example "G80" is the GM code for posi other "G" codes can tell us what the factory installed gears were.

how are 3.73s on the interstate with a A4 what rpms are you at around 70mph like 2500 2600

4.10's on mine, 3200 stall, 29" tires, still gets 19 on the highway. 20 mile trip ain't no big thing. I run 25 miles a day one way down the expressway @ 65 mph most of the time.

stick with the 3.73 s . i know a friend who runs 4.10 gears in a bone stock 90
trans am automatic the car runs like **** and gets terrible gas mileage.

Does the 90 have an LT1 in it????

The LT1 likes rpm more than it's predecessors and the computer is MUCH more adaptable.

While I agree 3.73s are a good choice for most, your argument is just not valid due to being a very different engine/computer setup in a 90.

I have 4.10's. I'm at 3100 at 70 with a 255/50.
It's fun as ****, but gas mileage sucks, not that it matters cause it's a muscle car.
You can run a higher stall with them and it will still be tight on the street.

what gear are ya in at the end of the 1/4 with the 4.10,s in it . i wanna do it on my car but i just dont wanna hit o/d before i cross the line . i know the trans will handle it fine but just thear is what is holdin me back

I was in the very top of third, pushing 6500. Just don't put it into Overdrive and you won't shift into fourth. That was when it was geared only. Not sure what it would be with current mods.
Honestly, If it was a track only car that will see alot of high MPH I'd go with 3.73's. 4.10's are perfect for the street though.

mine isnt a d/d ...its a toy built for the street mostly . on a rare occasion im on the highway for about 10-15 minuetes ... havin the cc503 in my car i may not do the 4.10,s though cause im out of my powerband , the motor will spin it and the trans will do it but sprayin out that long and into o/d possibly scares me
