I'm just about to do a cam and heads swap on my car. im not touching the bottom end at all. What oil should I use with the new camshaft? Should I use a specific oil for break-in? I'm just not sure what I should use to properly break-in the new cam.

Hydraulic roller camshafts don't need to be broken-in. Just make sure the lifters and cam are covered in motor oil.

I have used both cam/assembly lube and regular motor oil. Either one will work fine. As stated, there is no break in period. If everything else remains the same, start her up, let her get to temp, and if oil pressure is good, and you had the foresight to get a mail order tune for the first start up, let her rip!!!

Just make sure when you do this cam swap you do so taking the utmost care to keep **** out of the oil pan as well as paying close attention when removing the old cam and stab the new. Use 3" or longer bolts to handle the cam when taking out and putting into the engine. Use clean rags to cover up the front of the pan when you have the timing cover off. That way you'll avoid posting on here to say your bearings are spun and all the ill-informed will tell you it was because you had too many miles on the engine...

imho..... I believe that medium to heavy hitting with a hammer helps to seat the cam into the bearings....I am a low-budget mechanic so take it with a grain of salt

talk to any engine builder they'll say not to use syn on break in but use break in oil or conventional for a oil change or 2
