1987 Chevy K10
Guys,
I got a friend who has an 87 K10 SWB that the engine is tired, he would like to swap in a 5.3 or 6.0, what motor mounts and or mods need to be made? can he run a 4l80e trans without cutting stuff up? Any help would be most appreciated.

most lsx swaps for chevy trucks are easy. if you search this site youll find plenty. most adapter plates can be ordered from any where, literally. buy the adapter plates to mount the gen I motor mounts to the engine. once you dive in, if you are mechanically inclined, you'll be able to tackle the job. when i first started my lsx swap, it was over whelming. but good friends, beer, and my ls1tech fam just a blog away, made it a snap. im on my third lsx swap(advising friends). main issue is mounting the engine/tranny. decide if you are running F.I. or carb. once thats done, its smooth sailing. check my post and pics. anything else, you're blog away from the answer. ls1tech is here for you. good luck.

I did the swap on a 65 Chevy truck ( what a PITA, would have quit if it wasnt for this forum and the guys help here) and he and I did his 2000 Camaro, I guess it is my fault he did the Camaro and now he wants to do the truck. I got him started I guess.
Anyway so I got it that the mount plates are needed for the GEN3-4 motor, the motor mounts from the 87 can be used without mod? His truck has the FI already, he wants that for sure, he wants to go with a 4l80e for the toughness from the factory instead of $ for building a 200 or 700. he will probably go with a walbro255 in tank and only use one tank. Any help you can provide would be great.

You know that you can use the existing 1987 sending unit and a fuel pump for a vortec 5.7 truck right? Those are only about $23 new on eBay. I might be wrong but I also think the engine crossmember of the k series trucks will hit the oil pan of ls engines.

if you use a truck pan thay drop in just fine.
lot of guys over on ck5.com have been swaping them in eal easy .
as said just get 96-97 vortec engine pump from a c/k series truck
and there is dirty dingo mounts that let you adjust and bolt in to stock truck mounts on the frame side.
as for the 4l80-e that is a big tranny and will work but need diffrent tcase input shaft and adaptor. a its 32 spline over the 700r4 you prob have now with 27 spline . and the length is longer this = drive shaft rework for lengths.
doug thorley headers even got one of our members on ck5.com to drop off his swap and use it as a test rig for headers on the 73-87 ls swap rigs. or you can use car or truck stock manifolds.
good luck .
