Doing research on LSx engine's for my transplant.
I'm trying to find out the differences between LS1-LS7. Is it more then just liter size? I'm looking in to transpalnting in to my RX7. I've heard of the Lt1, LS1 and LS2 being done. I found some cheap LS6 engines but would have to figure out a matching trans' so i'm here reading.

I don't really know what all goes into swapping an lsx into an rx7, so i'm not much help there. If you haven't found it though, there's a section specifically for conversions and hybrids, so there's probably some useful info stickied in that section. Hope this helps,

this site will have all the info that you will need, but in short, yes they are different besides just displacement. Any transmission that will bolt to ls1 should work on ls6 ls2 lq4 lq9 etc

So far I have LS1-LS3 oldest to newest but LS6 is older then LS3
LS7 is the newest but a very large block and more expensive.
The supercharged Cadillac engine looks reaaly nice. Can someone tell me what LS catagory that engine falls under? Maybe what years and models to search for a totaled one? ok, ok.

In super-simple terms, the LS1 and LS6 are your basic Gen 3 "LSx" engines. The LS6 has better heads (243); they are really good in stock form for the smaller-displacement Gen 3 engines.
The LS2 is basically just a bigger LS6. It's Gen 4, but I think putting it a whole "generation" above the LS1/6 is giving it way more credit than it deserves. The LS3/7/9/A are way better engines.
The LS7 has it's own heads, which are really nice in stock form too. Of course, it's got manly cubes. The LS3 has it's own heads, and they too are great in stock form. So, it's not just that the LS3/7's are bigger than LS1/6's, they also have better heads, and that's very important. The LS9/LSA's are basically LS3's with blowers.
That's all over-simplified, but it will get you started.
