Does the year if LQ4/LQ9 matter?

Does the year if LQ4/LQ9 matter?
I might be able to get a hold of a 1999 LQ4. My question is, will the L92 heads fit on this or do I need a newer block for this to work? Thank you for any info.
I'll be putting a car intake on this as well.

there's threads on here about it. they will bolt up but i think they don't give you the best PTV clearance. they are still good heads though. peronally i would think that rather than spending money on pistons with valve reliefs, i'de buy some AFR heads. but if you aren't gonna run a huge cam then L92's should be fine.

Thanks for the quick response! This is going into my 71 Camaro and will be my daily driver, so I'd like something warmed over but nothing insane. So, if I went with some AFR's it would bump up my compression? Because I had thought about putting some flattop pistons in there.
I will be putting a better than stock cam in there, but nothing too aggresive.

milled AFR's are the way to go. that would give you a good bump. but they are $$$$. i would say if its just a street machine you should go with these:

1300 base price, but you can upgrade the springs and valves and they come in 67-72cc chamber size. i would call them first though with your exact needs and they will help you get there. TSP has great customer service.
oh and they should have an off the shelf cam to come close to your needs. but if you are real picky look up patrick g and try to get him to spec you a cam. i believe e-mailing him is the best policy as his pm box stays full lol.

My cam is a 224/224 .581 on a 114lsa... I figure a low 230's cam would probably max out the PTV clearance. But not sure until you actually measure it...

soul's comp ratio is at 11.2:1, john you can mill a little less off of the same AFR's and get a little less compression and a little bigger cam if you so choose. btw what are your rwhp/tq goals?

Honestly, I really haven't thought about RWHP. Kind of sounds crazy now that I think of it. I've got a 6.0 in a Chevy 1500HD 4x4 and always thought of it like that with a little more kick.
As I said, this is going to be my daily driver. It's going to have a T56 and I already have a 12 bolt built for it with 3.73s.
I just want my 71 to behave like a modern sports car. So, even if this sounds a bit vague, maybe something along the lines of a Z06. Something that has *****, but can also be driven to and from work every day.

the bigger the cam of course the less street friendly. So if this is a DD then I wouldn't go any bigger than a 228 cam...
I love my car, and am currently using it as a daily driver since my mustang took a dump on me (clutch went out). But I'll be honest, it gets kinda old driving a 400+hp 6 speed car everyday with idle issues when turning on the A/C and a friggin Stg. 5 clutch...

haha yeah i have friend that has an s10 with a solid roller 383 sbc on the bottle. he drives that thing all over the place....not quite his DD but damn...he's on slicks and skinnies, no a/c, no radio, black primer paint etc. idk how he does it.

My tuner told me my A/C compressor is going bad and creating too much strain on the engine. Showed me some readings on HPTuners and explained it better than I can. So anytime I am driving and the engine is fairly cold it will die as soon as I start the A/C. However, if I have been driving for a bit, especially cruising on the freeway, it will hold idle. However it will hold idle at like 500-600 rpm with the A/C on, rather than the usual 800-900 with it off.
I also must let the car warm up at idle for a good 5-10 minutes before I can drive it anywhere or it will die on me. I've got a few theories. I do have a noise coming from the engine bay that sort of sounds like a supercharger ... Thinking it might be a vaccum leak of some sort coming from somewhere. Could be my PCV system since I've never replaced it.
Just some things I need to check into. I've been dealing with it for a while. Otherwise the car runs great.

Car craft did a lq4 build where they just gave it a hotcam, edelbrock heads, and some headers and the thing made really good power. Don't remember the exact numbers because it was a while back. They bolted the L92 heads on too and the compression stayed pretty close to the same as the chambers are the same size. They flow more though so on their dyno with the same hot cam the thing made tons of top end power but sacrificed some bottom end. It didn't surpass the edelbrock setup until almost 5k rpms and then took off from there. I'd bet with some compression and cam matching and a good tune that could be fixed.
