i launched my M6 cammed t/a at hrp today, and snapped the driveshaft. Then we tow the car home and find oil covering the pass side of the car. Dipstick reads empty. any ideas what this could be? I dont have time to look at the car till monday, so thats all the details i know. I hope its not a rod through the block

If it was not knocking then u may have punch a hole in the pan. Hell are u sure it was the drive shaft?

the drive shaft was in 2 pieces torn towards the rear. What would punch a hole in the pan?

Back in college my roomate decided the u-joint grease caps weren't required on his '91 GTA (because he was having trouble making them fit). The rear joint let got about 30 miles down the road and the force of the driveshaft hitting the pavement at 70mph caused a very large crack on the top of the transmission housing where it was not visible from under the car. It didn't leak when the car was not moving since the crack was on the top so it took a while to figure out what was happening to the oil. The tranny itself (Tremec TKO) was not damaged but he had to get the housing welded up.

Bottom line - I bet the force of that thing letting go somehow cracked your oil pan.
