Clear-coating polished rims?

Clear-coating polished rims? Is it true that you can put a clear-coat on polished rims and they'll stay polished without you having to repolish them? I found some sweet rims that are polished, and I heard about the hassles of polished rims, so I don't want the problem. So, can I get them and just put a clear coat on? How much does that usually cost? Thanks.

I never like to clear coat polished wheels. when you clearcoat the wheel it will lose some of its lustre and as it ages will tend to have a light yellow tinge to them. The best thing to do is after polishing them use a good wax as a protectant and only use mild soapy water to clean them. Never use anything on your rims that you would not use on you car.

Re: Clear-coating polished rims? Over the counter clear coat paint will not adhere to the wheel, you may think the paint has but put some 2" masking tape on it and give it a pull...good by clear coat. I'm not sure if this will work but you could see if clear powder coating will work, good luck.

Re: Clear-coating polished rims? I had my HRE's clearcoated (by HRE) and they are great. They are the easiest polished wheel to take care of. Just a little soap and water and they are like new again. I will never have another set of polished wheels on a car I own without clearcoat. They are the biggest pain in the *** you will ever come accross on a daily driver (unless you like polishing them all the time). Just my opinion.
