Default Help with a headers question

Ok, so I have recently purchased a 96 SS that is almost 100% stock except for a Borla cat back. Im looking at a pair of off road pacesetters and off road y-pipe. My question is if I get rid of the AIR, EGR, and cats will it throw a code? Im new to the OBD IIs so Im unsure what will happen. I have been told that almost everytime you do a mod like upgrading headers or throttle body the car will need to have a tune done??

yes the car will throw a code for the cats but it needs a tune after the headers anyway so the tuner can delete air and egr and the cats.

Can I tune it myself with a laptop and cable?? Or should I just take it some place and have it tuned?
