Thumbs down 4l60e problem(serious)

Hey guys i just recently bought a 98 trans am for $1500, motor runs fine and looks like an 8 out of 10 from the exterior but one major issue...IT GOES NOWHERE FAST lol
i know im not an expert but some of you guys might be...
previous owner said tranny was rebuilt and stalled and after that it wouldnt move...
shifter can go into r,n,d,3,2,1 and motor idles higher then drops to regular idle but doesnt move when you step on the gas...
any ideas? id like to keep this car in the $2500 area as far as a budget so that leaves me with about $900 to get it running right
thanks in advance

Did he literally install the trans with a stall and it wouldn't move after that? Or was he driving a little after it was rebuilt and then it stopped moving?

If it never moved after the rebuild I would suspect an install problem with maybe the torque converter not seated all the way in the trans. Could have ruined the front pump if that is the case which is why there is no movement at all. I saw a guy selling a brand new 4l60e in the parts sections a couple days ago for $500. Not sure if it sold yet but that would be a good option if you are on a budget.

I agree sounds like the converter didn't get seated
