4L60E truck trans
I have a 4l60 out of my 96 tahoe the case has a k on it. ive been told this is a stronger case. Id like to use it behind a big block after it has been completely redone. Is this possible and is the TCI TCU any good? I plan on using it in an older vehicle (late 60s early 70s) any help would be great

The case is going to be the last thing to break on a 4L60E in an older vehicle with a big block.
The TCU will work but for the money you could build a decent 700 just as strong as any 4L60E, get rid of the electronic bullshit.
Even if your 4L60E was built 100% you could take almost everything out of it that gives it it's strength and put it in a 700 case, and end up with a transmission that requires a cable and governor to tune shifts.
Thats if you want to take the chance of putting a 4L60 or 4L60E behind a big block.
IMO a 4L80E is way easier to build, shifts way better, is a lot stronger in stock form, can be controlled with the TCU and will respond better even though it's shifted electronically.
These are also getting easier to find for cheaper.

Yes it is. I have one controlling the 4L60E in my 1989 Trans Am. I love the whole set up. Through a lap top computer you can tune it to your hearts content.

The 4L80E internals are near identical to the th400 from the direct drum back excluding the output shaft.
Most bushings, bearings, washers, clutch discs, early reverse servo, early front band, rear band from a 4L80E are the same as the th400.
The valve body and pump are totally different.
