Possible dana60 swap
I bought a hard top Ss a few weeks ago and the car has a strange Dana 60 in it with 4:10 gears, Detroit trutrac, and 35 spline axles. Honestly I don't need the rearend. I'm not gonna drag race the car very much if any at all. It's my daily and I wanna lower it and just make it a clean cruiser. How much cash do yal think I should ask for in trade for a 10 bolt with gears and preferably an after market posi ?

Mine has a painted black drive shaft so I doubt it's chromemoly. I think it's just 3in steel with 1350 yokes. I would give it in the trade in return for a stocker! I'm not sure on milage. Previous owner says he had it rebuilt and he only put 7,xxx on the car so of it's true it's pretty fresh. I checked the fluid in it the other day and it was very clear and nice looking. Do you think $2,250 plus a ten bolt and stock drive shaft would be a fair price?

ws6killer, they are not worth much, maybe like $200. I'll give you my 10 bolt and $100 for it
Honestly though, mine's got an Eaton posi, with 4.10s. Has around 2000 miles on this setup. Slight wine, but you'll probably get rid of it with new bearings. PM me if you are interested.

They are about $2300 bucks straight from Strange. If you sell it with the driveshaft, i'd expect you to be able to pull about $2300 bucks or maybe $2100 with a stock ten bolt swap.
Honestly, i'd just leave it in, unless you need the cash. You will NEVER have to worry about breaking it. Its good to something like 1500 HP.

I bought the same set up a few months back and what you have to remember, is that the dana 60 also has a custom drive shaft that won't fit the 10 bolt. Also, he may have needed to get a different torque arm but I could be wrong. When I bought mine, I put in a cross member adj. torque arm. The whole setup, dana 60 with backing plates, etc. and with chrome moly drive shaft, chrome moly pinion yoke shipped was $3200. So, depending on how many miles and wear are on the dana and drive shaft you could work yourself down from there.
That is about what I paid for mine from Pyle Bros.

I understand where yal are coming from. But I'm not gonna drag race the car. I have a blown 67 camaro to do that with. I might visit Mexico on occasion but that's all the racing the car will see. Btw I couldn't see the labor on a gear swap costing to much!!

I'm not for sure Blake but I'm pretty sure theres gonna have to be a new carrier to get anything higher than 3.73s...and even then your gonna have to order the right one made for that carrier if I'm not mistaken...could be wrong...
And that rear end set up was just above 3 grand with that driveshaft
I was gonna do the same thing your thinking about doing

The highest gear that I found for this setup was a 3.54 and the lowest gear you can get on a 3 series is a 4.30, unless it's changed from when I ordered mine.... If your asking on how much the gears cost they can range from $180 to $250for your standard gear sets or from $280 to $340 for your pro/competition gear sets (5 series).
