Change Camshaft without Removing the Pulley? possible?
is it possible to remove the camshaft without taking off the crank pulley?
i wanted to try and lower the oil pan in the front and take 1 or 2 belt tensioners off and ROTATE the timing chain cover about 90 degrees on the crank just enough to get the camshaft out. i may not have access to a pulley puller which is what made me think of this
has anyone done this?? do u think it would work?
Thanks
Anthony

It more than likely will not work. When you get your camshaft, if you have not already, opt for the Edelbrock 2 piece timing cover should you want to change your cam again in the future without removing the crank pulley.

+1 to all the above. The snout of the crank pully sits in the timing cover and it has to come off for sure. Sorry fella.
And in order to get the clearance to twist the timing cover with the oil pan shifted, the engine will have to come off a motor mount and tilted to make room for that. My vote, just pull the pulley. If you don't have one, get a 25% or 10% underdrive pulley while your at it.

The problem isn't even room on the outside of the cover, its inside - the cover hits the oil pump very early in the rotation is both directions. I've tried it. Don't forget to replace the balancer bolt too. ARP makes a nice re-usable one if you plan on pulling the cover ever again.
