Default What would it take to rebuilt this LS1?

I am looking at getting this 98 Trans Am for a parts car but he said the motor overheated and blew the head gaskets. I wanted to use the motor for my 70 Camaro and put in an MS4 cam and the appropriate supporting mods. What would it take to bring this motor back? He only wants $2k for the car, maybe less if I negotiate. I figured I would replace the gaskets on anything I bought anyways. What else might it need?

If I look at the car should I bring a breaker bar to see if it spins freely? Also should I drain a little oil and see what comes out?

Pm'd you back.. I will take $1000 for it with the hood or $500 without if I do buy the car but I need to strip some parts for my other car.

Any thing else I need to check? I guess just go over it with a fine tooth comb?

If it just blew the head gasket and everything else looks good just double check that the heads are okay (maybe spend $250 and have them flow tested/cleaned) and triple check the coolant system. make sure no head gasket material got into the oil passages etc. and you should be okay. GL!
