Default can you rebuild a shifter?

The Hurst that came out of my Camaro has slack in it and it causes it to slightly hit my console with the short stick on it. Are there anyway of fixing this or will I eventually need a shifter?
Thanks

Comparing it to a billet base shifter is apples to oranges. I think it would be worth your while to look for a used shifter if you are on a tight budget. I see a few of them about every week in the classifieds section. Hurst Billet Plus and Pro 5.0 are 2 pretty popular ones. You can always stick that stock Hurst setup out on ebay and make some money back towards your next purchase.

I've got a B and M I could use I just don't like it. Seems like its harder to get in gear with it. Thats why I put the Hurst back in. I've got the Hurst/ short stick combo in both cars its just that one had the play in it and I wondered if maybe there was something simple I could do to it. And its not bad it just barely touches in 2nd gear would it cause any damage to the transmission to run it like that ?
Thanks
