Default does all ls1 motors have this??

behind the rear cover is there a cam plate that the cam rides agaisnt or does the cover itself keep the cam from backing out this maybe a dumb question but i am not sure??

No plate on the rear, the cover is all.

The cam gear and front retainer plate keep it in place. Back is just a cover and a place for the cam angle sensor I believe.

Yes there is a black plate I want to say it has four bolts in it. It sorda does both, keeps the cam from walking out the back

Wrong the plate is on the front of the block not the back.

Yes, the front plate locates the cam. It cannot move forward or back.
