Question Need help

hey i just got a 98 camaro ss, the previous owner said it was completely stock and it has the ls1 but when i brought it to my mechanic who is a good friend of mine, him and everyone in his shop said that it is not the original engine and it is the ls2. Is there anyway that i can tell if it is a ls1 or an ls2 just by looking at the engine?? I want to do performance mods to the car but i want to deff find out what engine i have first before i start spending money on parts to find out that there the wrong ones.

Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

How many bolts are holding the TB to the intake? What is the mechanic saying that makes it a LS2? What is the casting # on the passenger side head?
