boring out a LM7/5.3 Vortec
i am swapping out a 5.3 vortec in my 79 chevy shortbed...i was considering a lt1 and throwing a 383 kit in there, but working with a lt1 is like making a deal with the devil...ive had a 383 lt1 in the past...not the best engineering..
so my question is has anyone every bored out a 5.3 vortec? if so how far...
can anybody help me out with a build of maybe where somebody did it...
thanks alot, corey

I bored a 5.3 out to the ls1 bore which puts the block at it's limit. All you need is the ls1 pistons, the rods and crank are the same in both engines. Fwiw, the 5.3, 5.7, & 6.0 all use the same cranks and rods with different bores. The 4.8 is the black sheep that uses a smaller crank which could make for some hi-rpm winding if that's what you're into.
