Default lq4 imitating an ls6?

I might have a chance to buy some 243 heads have have some bowl work, and dual springs. I am thinking about removing the dual springs and putting on my yellow springs, slapping them on my lq4 that already has a z06 cam, and ls6 intake.

Will be using stock head gaskets, so compression should be around 10.5, right? That would be same as an ls6, same cam, little more displacement (5.7 vs 6.0), same intake (have ported tb though, and will have long tube headers).

So, shouldn't this also be the 405hp these are supposed to get? I don't want to do the bigger cam yet as that will require a bigger stall, and the 4l80e stall are not cheap, and I am not even done putting this car together before I got distracted and maybe going a different route

So, I figure this would be better than running the 317 heads with this cam, but how much better? Should I just store the heads until I get a better converter/cam? Money is tight as I am laid off, and only have so much money set aside to play with the toy.

thanks as always for listening to my ramblings

317 heads flow about as good or as good as 243s, they just have the bigger combustion chambers. If I was in your shoes, I would get the 243s and mill them down to help compression and run with it. It will be a fun motor for sure.

Mill the 243s .035", and you'll be mimicking a LS2 with 11:1 compression.

if your not reusing your head gaskets get thinner ones to help quench.

If you are going to go with that small of a cam, mill the heads some to get some more compression. These motors can go all the way up to 11.5:1 before pump gas becomes an issue so you have some room to go there.
