Default Need some advice....

Hey guys, I am looking at upgrading to a new daily driver. Right now I have a 02 Monte Carlo SS with 146k on it and I am probably going to upgrade to a newer style Grand Prix. I found two cars locally, one is a 04 GTP with 75k on it and he's asking $8,000. The other is a 05 GXP with 13k and he's asking $15,000. My question is, how are the LS4's in reliability compared to the series 3 3800's? I know the tranny's area little weak but I'm more concerned with the engine itself. It won't be driven too hard (that's what the vette is for) but I would like something with more power than what I have now. Any advice will help.

15k for a gxp with that low of miles is a good price. they stand up really well and arnt that bad on fuel if you can stay out of it.

You gotta think about the winter too. My GXP is a daily, and it sucks in the winter...

i have had both and personally i would go with the GXP. I think the GXP has a better suspension than the GTP but you will be happy with either one you pick.

i would say if i had to do it all over again i would have gotten a gxp. They are just fancier and come stock with better performance stuff.

saw a gxp in traffic the other day and instantly wanted to trade ... if just so i could get her home and wash her ...

and if you can keep your foot out of the floor, do mostly highway driving, you can easily get 25+ ... but as a DD, tooling around in traffic and having fun sometimes, im right around 19.5 mpg

constant struggle between mileage, fun, and letting people pass you in traffic

Thanks for the input guys. I actually found a GTP Comp G in AMAZING condition right here in town and I guess the dealer had been sitting on it for a while and wanted to move it so I was able to talk them down $2k and got a pretty good trade in value for my Monte. I appreciate all the advice but I think this is the route I'm going to go. Thanks again.
