Building my own headers (LS1) any good stainless kits out there?
Well I am doing an LS1 conversion in my Toyota Tacoma and I have come to the conclusion that none of the factory headers will not fit due to the location of the steering rack to shaft.
It looks like the CTS ones may be close but I dont want to buy them just to find that they dont quite fit so I wold rather do it once the right way.
I would like to just run FI in the future possibly if I can ever get the truck close to hooking up, so I am trying to get the motor set back far enough to lend the weight bias in my direction, also will be fabricating a larger stainless fuel tank to get some weight back there as well. But I will have to wait and see if it can get traction.
I looked on the Speedway website and there is a specific LS1 DIY header kit from Mild steel but if I am going to spend the time to make headers I would rather use stainless, or I guess another possibility is to make them from mild steel and coat them, but I think coating is probably $150-200 for the pair, so I would rather spend that money of better material than spend it on a coating...even if it costs more..
Another way and likely the best way is to buy the GM Performance Header flanges because they are close to 1/2 inch thick from what I have researched and just buy a bunch of stainless bends and maybe a couple of doughnuts and a pair of collectors, and I can just cut and weld the bends to get what I need, I also have a Mittler Bros. tubing bender but I dont think I can get a tight enough radius for what I need.
Any experience or recommendations? Other sites to get some affordable stainless tubing, flanges, or collectors, I will go check out Burns but I believe they are pricey, however cant hurt to check it out before making that assumption.

stainless isn't as a rule cheap. I guess you do get what you pay for. Here's who I would deal with:

Check these guys out, they are a supplier to our shop. Good people to deal with and quick delivery. Sometimes they have good deals on their surplus elbows.

X2, After rethinking making custom headers until I decide upon what type of FI I will be using (probably turbo) I dont want to make a set of headers and have to scrap them later, way too much work for that..
So after trying to search about the Mustang headers that can be recofigured I got pissed off at the shitty 60 second wait between searches and gave up after wasting about 20 minutes..
Probably just going to start another thread to bump it for all those that may want info they can find....like myself.

Schoenfeld makes a nice pipe kit with something like 36' of various bends. I will end up with enough bends for 2 sets of headers. You will need a couple pieces of straight tube, too.

I have worked with these guys on almost every build of mine and had wonderful service and success with their products.

I agree that the cone engineering collectors are just as good. Used them on my last turbo kit.

The ulitmate build kit from Columbia river was only enough material to build one shorty header. I only had one U-bend left and didn't waste any material. Got the flanges from stainlessworks. Ended up being $690 in material.
