How much oversize is it? (i am assuming you've tried different lifters in the different slots to verify that it is the lifter and not the lifter hole.)

Tried a different lifter and it slid right in. Also does it matter how the lifters are installed with the oil holes?

It does not matter on the oil holes. Can you put a micrometer on the oversize lifter to see how much over it is?

Dont have the tool available. Let a friend borrow it and hes out of town at the moment. Can it just be one defective lifter?

Yes it can be one defective lifter, but I think that is pretty rare. If you have not tried it all ready, you might pull all the lifters and see if that particular lifter will fit any of the holes. It would still need to move in and out easily - you do not want to force it in any event.

My thought is that perhaps the lifter is just at the upper end of the tolerance range that you might have one hole that is also a little larger than the others.

Also make sure the lifter does not have any kind of a burr or knick on it.
