Need help picking a stall for a Turbo LT1
Posted this in the automatic transmission section but didn't get any replys so i'm gonna post in here and see if anyone can help me.
I have a '95 lt1 with a built 4l60e. at the time i just put in a stock corvette stall, like 2000 i think. But now that i can't launch my car above 1,700rpms i'm looking for something bigger so i can launch my car. I'd like to be able to foot brake ~2,500 rpms so i could leave the line at ~2psi. What kind of stall should i be looking at? would a 3,200 be enough? It's my DD so i'm not looking for anything INSANE, but something to wake it up.
Now i've heard that i need an anti-ballooning plate because i have a turbo. It's a custom remote mount set-up i built and i'm running 7-8psi on a pretty much stock engine. maybe ~380-400whp? nothing crazy. so would i need the A-B plate?
last time to the track i was running 13.00 @ 114mph. i have a full suspension and drag radials so i want to be able to launch and get rid of my 2 second 60's

i have a two step but can't really use it cause my tires just start spinning around 1,600rpms. so i want a converter that i can foot brake and 2-step @2,500 and hopefully i'd be able to build 2-3psi? maybe more? haven't been able to test it so idk

What RPM is the two step set at? also a 2800-3000 stall might be just right for your app.
Also I would use the anti-b plates. With the torque you could be producing it is better to be safe than buying a new converter and anything it takes out. If you decide to use nitrous also, the plates def should be there.

i sent a e-mail to one company, i guess i'll have to do some calling now.
the two-step is adjustable in incriments of 100 rpms so i can set it to anything.
alright i was just asking about the anti-ballooning plates cause the one in there now doesn't have them so i wasn't sure if a bigger stall made them more prone to breaking and that's why i'd need one. i broke the original corvette stall i put in, not sure what broke though, it was making loud clunking noises.. lol also it's easier to find a stall without the a-b plates

With a turbo, converter selection is a very different process, there are few that really do it well.
Stall speed is part of the problem, crappy rear brakes is another big part...
Step over to the www.turbobuick.com and find Dusty Bradford.
If I still had my Impala, I would be talking to Dusty.
What are the details of your build? (engine, turbo, header configuration, etc...)

The anti balloon plates are because of the torque a turbo makes, and a stall will allow the engine to make that torque a lot more suddenly. As said above it can be difficult to get the right stall on a turbo, too low and it wont build boost on the brakes well, too high and you are trying to hold back too much boost.

Hi,
you can go more, but the sacrifice may be less than beneficial to your project.you will ultimately make the call and need to be happy with your choice. Consider the feedback and contact your stall company. Install and enjoy. Stall will give you about .3-.4 in the 1/4 mile give or take a little.
1/2 gear ration increase is .15-.25 example 3.23/3.73......good luck and have a blessed day. Check out wallace racing calculator.have a blessed day.....jim

With the turbo you are likely to use a lower stall than we do NA. That is because your engine can make power at a lower rpm than we can NA.
The people saying 32-3400 are likely ignoring the turbo part of the equation. I agree that something down around 2800 is probably going to be nice but you need to talk to a custom converter builder here.
Someone above mentioned Yank, they do excellent work. I like Edge a lot, Vigilante is good too.
