7" Wide Rim... what will hook better?

7" Wide Rim... what will hook better? A 255/60/15 or a 235/60/15? The 255 seems a little wide for that rim, but it's doable. Will the added "bulge" hurt me or help me?
Assume the height difference is negligible. Car is 4200lbs and an auto in the low 10s. Ran 275/40/17s on a 8" wheel last year and they didn't hook nearly as well when I had 235/60s. Granted suspension has some to do with it, etc. All the same tire... MT Radials.
