Default Putting a 2002 rearview in a 2000 SS

I got a rearview off a 2002 Z28 from my buddy because they take a 194 LED bulb instead of the festoon style bulb and to me they look a little better. When I went to install it, I found that the connector on the '02 mirror is thin and about 1.5" wide where as my 2000 mirror looks almost like a phone jack. Both connectors have 3 wires going into the pigtail so I'm thinking the larger one can be spliced into my harness coming down from the headliner. Anyone else done this or have a theory??? Thanks.

Just splice the three wires color to color. The mirror design changed in the middle of the 2001 model year but the wire colors remained the same. You should have dark blue with white (power), white (variable ground for theater dimming effect), and black (regular ground for map lights).
