Default Driveshaft diameter

I am preparing to order the drive shaft for my Chevelle. I am going to use Shaftmasters. I was going to order a 51.5 inch center to center shaft in 3 inch .095 steel tubing and 1350 joints. I wonder if this is going to be good enough or should I up it to the 3.5 inch shaft? I will have more room if I use the 3 inch one. I guess my question is what am I giving up by using the 3 inch one? Anyone ever have any problems with theirs? Thanks

Dave

Default

I use a 3.5" but mine had to be 56". At my length I almost went 4" diameter.

The larger diameter increases the RPM you can turn safely. If you look up some info on critical RPM there should be charts based on length, material, and planned RPM.
