Has anyone cut filler neck on 98 tanks

Has anyone cut filler neck on 98 tanks im talking about right at the tank. cut the filler neck off and reinstall with a rubber coupler and clamps? is this helpful or has anyone tried it? mine is bent a lil from removal.. just wondering what would aid in reinstall. herd the 99+'s are like this from factory..

so i'm guessing the filler neck is made of metal just like the tank, yes the 99+ have the rubber hose and clamps, i just dropped tank on my 02 bird and it makes removing the tank that much easier, no worries about breaking something.
