The stock airbox and hard piece over the radiator is a major restriction. The difference between the Cam/ FB motor and the Corvette is negligeble, its the intake system and exhaust system that make the difference in te rating between the two, But that difference you observed is quite surprising.

One other thing to consider...The stock air box has an opening to correspond to the air ducting that's hidden somewhare in the LF fender. That opening just happens to be only about half the size of the actual air filter.
I opened mine up so it's fully exposed to the filter, then epoxied a piece of wire screen over the opening, to keep any large pieces of debris from clogging the filter. Yes, that will allow some warmer, underhood ait to enter the filter, but there's still cool air coming in from the stock inlet.

i had a newer filter in it and we cleaned it after the first run to see if it made a difference. it didnt. i want to see the benifits of an entire cold air intake system over our stock air inlet system.

I would like to get a stock lt1 car and test all the free mods that everyone does and put up a list of results. (free dyno access while im at school so i may as well put it to good use)

I did a similar test when I had my car on the dyno a while ago, except I shitcanned the whole intake system and ran open throttle body (I have a speed density 93). It made 13 more hp than with the complete factory system in place.
I think there was some error with your testing shix.

This is why i don't personally think the LS1 lid swap is worth too much on a stock cube car unless you add a true ram air setup to it like the chris1313 kit. Most CAIs already flow way more then enough air for even a H/C350...
But thats a whole other beaten to death argument.

it was without the air box completely not just a new filter. You guys don't have to believe it if you don't want but i did multiple pulls just to rule out any possibility of errors.

It is entirely possible..... Do you honestly thing the factory will spend the time and money on R&D for a cold air system? You would be nuts to entertain that thought! They simply place plastic tubing routing away from the motor.......Now specialty cars like the WS6 have the best most direct hard to improve on set up going! The SS set up was NOT although it looks cool.....
I had a modded air box, K&N, Homemade, Moroso and now as of 3 years ago SLP lid it was proven to me at the track in my car to give 2 tenths and 1.8 mph OVER the Moroso and by far the least expensive!

I know when my 93 was stock for giggles we pulled the stock airfilter out of the box and left it open at the track for a pass and it gained 1.8 in the 1/4 and ran a mph faster than the previous run the same day.

1. Avoid water ingestion
2. Silence intake noise
3. Ensure air is clean of any debris
4. get air into engine
Modding your car is all about making your car conform to your priorities. You will never do as much r&d as an OEM but you can set your priorities however you like.
